A program for lovers of the last century’s most profound music! Husa’s terrifying masterwork, his response to the Soviet Union’s occupation of Czechoslovakia, was written for concert band, then transcribed for orchestra, performed in the Bay Area for the first time at this concert. Jolivet’s tour de force for trumpet and chamber orchestra is like atonal jazz. Finally, Bartók’s crowning masterpiece (featured in one of Redwood Symphony’s best CDs) brings the program to a jubilant, life-affirming conclusion!
