About our CD recording of The Rite of Spring:

Hobbled for 40 years by a cultural climate that demanded that a performance illuminate the music's structure rather than its emotional content, the work has not been properly recorded since Muti and the Philadelphians' electrifying reading on EMI—and even that was hampered by a mediocre recording with restricted dynamic range…. Now there's one that does Rite full justice. Don't be put off by the unfamiliar performers; what matters is how familiar they are with the music, and they know it inside out. This is a stunning Rite, and the recording will blow your socks off.

Meet a match made in heaven! Two enduring classics of ritual and ceremony on one program: Stravinsky’s revolutionary, epochal Rite of Spring and Orff’s rousing Carmina Burana, both presented with supertitles.

The Rite of Spring’s premiere in 1913 Paris instigated the most famous riot in musical history. This stemmed not only from the scandalous nature of the story, but also because this work is one of our greatest musical masterpieces and because it sparked a musical revolution that is still being felt 100 years later.

After Friday evening online ordering will stop,
but tickets will still be available at the door.
