Carmen --Wow!

--Peter Stahl

Congratulations to all on a fabulously successful Carmen! Particular kudos go to the trumpet and trombone sections for trudging on and offstage during the action without knocking anything over, to the strings for making it through their 100+ page parts without having their arms fall off, and to the woodwinds for finally all showing up at once. Kidding aside, though, this performance set a new high water mark for Redwood Symphony. We gave a genuinely moving performance, and our concentration didn't flag despite the opera's great length. Special thanks to the under-appreciated Dan Swinehart- and George Yefchak for the super supertitles.

We're Not Here for the Money

For those of you who may have missed Peter's announcement at the May 1st rehearsal: We will not be paying musicians for the recording session of The Naked Man at Skywalker Ranch on June 15. Any earlier communiqués you may have seen offering payment were unauthorized. Redwood Symphony has a long-standing policy not to pay its members. If you have signed up to play in The Naked Man under the impression that you would be paid, we won't hold it against you if you now withdraw. We apologize for any confusion this has caused.

Help Wanted!

We need for someone to help coordinate car pools up to the city. If you are interested in organizing this aspect of the concert, please contact Claudia Herzog-. In addition, if you are interested in being a city "sleep over" coordinator for the weekend of the concert, please contact Claudia. A sleep over may make sense for South Bay people who need to stay in the city for the dress and the concert. There are a scant twelve hours between the end of the Oedipus and the beginning of the Naked Man dress rehearsals; some orchestra members may want to stay in San Francisco overnight.

More Good Stuff

Eric is happy to report that Patty Hennings, Music Director of the Skyline College Chorus, will join us every other year to do concert operas. The next one will be around May, 1998.

Also, our December Eroica performance will be televised (somewhere?) on May 15th.
