We have a week off after the Gala before our
Brahms/Beethoven set.
OEDIPUS REX
Yes, we are performing Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex at Davies Hall
on June 8, 1996. The reason you do not see it listed as part of
our concert season is that it is instead part of the San
Francisco Gay Men's Chorus season.
THANKS!
A special thanks to the parents of our cellist, Stephen
D'Andrea, who will provide housing for our soloist, Eugene Fodor.
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Bring a music stand just in case.
- At the end of rehearsal, please push chairs and stands
towards the back of the stage, and take twenty stands
back to the band room.
- Winds and Brass-Please arrange for a substitute when you
are absent. See Eric or Ari for a list of people to call.
SPECIAL CONCERT TASKS
Dress Rehearsal
- Lobby Set-Up (2 people) - We will need to set up tables,
coordinate with Catherine and Victor to set up lobby
area.
Day of Concert
- Assistant for Mr. Fodor (1 person) - Someone not playing
the concert to show Eugene around the College and make
sure he knows where his warm-up and changing
rooms are located.
- PickUp of Donated Food (3 people) - Pick-up sites are
located at Sequoia Station in Redwood City, Stanford
Shopping Center in Palo Alto, and various sites in
Downtown Palo Alto. In addition, there may be some
miscellaneous sites in San Mateo.
- Food Preparation (3 people) - Bring your serrated knives;
we are going to be slicing the bread/bagels. Most likely
this will be happening at Eric's house. (Note: The three
people who do the pick-up may want to do this task also.
Eric says "I have a great CD collection so we can
listen to music as we chop.") Estimated commitment
is about 11/2 hours.
- Refrigerator Help (1 or 2 people) - We may need to
refrigerate a cake and other assorted perishables for a
couple of days before the concert. Does anyone in the
Redwood City / Woodside / Menlo Park / Atherton area want
to offer some space?
Night of Concert
- Ticket Takers (4 people) - We will have two stations of
ticket takers. Please coordinate with Hari (415 506-4077)
if you know people who would be interested in helping
out. Ticket-takers get free admission. (Tell all
your friends who say $25 is too expensive-it doesn't get
cheaper than free!)
- Ushers (4 people) - Ushers hand out programs and, if
needed, escort people to their seats. These people should
be dressed nicely for the concert and have a nice
disposition. :) Ushers, like ticket-takers, get free
admission.
- CD Station (1 person) - We need someone to either call
Marilyn Carter or find another volunteer who will not be
playing the concert. Yes, this too earns free
admission.
- Lighting and Sound (1 person) - Normally handled by Mike
Horowitz (sp?).
- Clean Up (4 people) - We should make sure we are not
leaving the place trashed for the janitor.
- Day-Of Coordinator (1 person) - We are lucky
enough to have someone already volunteer for this
position. One of Peter Stahl's colleagues, Matsushi, will
serve as the central contact to make sure everything is
running smoothly with the caterer, the lighting/sound
person, the soloist, tickets, etc.
Did we miss anything? Please inform Claudia Herzog if you know
people who are interested in getting involved and getting into
the concert for free!
