Coming Soon -- New E-mail Lists

-- George Yefchak

Messages are currently sent to orchestra members using our Yahoo! Groups e-mail list. This service has served us well over the years, but I plan to move us to a different system in the next few weeks.

We'll soon have separate e-mail addresses for each section (trmpets@redwodsymphny.rg, etc.) as well as larger groups (strngs@redwodsymphny.rg) and the whole orchestra (orhstra@redwodsymphny.rg). Cool, huh? (Note e-mail addresses shown above are obscured for security.)

Advantages to these nested mail aliases include that Eric can send messages to whatever subset of the orchestra is appropriate, and that you'll be able to send messages to folks in your own section. An additional advantage (for me) is that these aliases are easier to maintain than the Yahoo! Groups list.

One disadvantage, however, is that no permission is required in order to send a message to the group. (The Yahoo! Groups system allowed only Eric and a few selected orchestra members to send messages without prior approval by a moderator.) Please don't abuse the new system by sending superfluous messages to the orchestra. And as always, please preface the subject line of any non-official messages with the words "OFF-TOPIC." A second disadvantage is a slightly increased possibility of spam. Yahoo! Groups has been fairly successful in guarding list members from spam, though even that system wasn't perfect. Of course I will protect the mail addresses as much as possible. For example, they won't be posted on a public web page.

Please contact me with any concerns. I'll be happy to discuss other options I've considered which might provide additional security but suffer from other disadvantages.

Would You Buy One?

We have the opportunity to produce a "fine art" quality poster based on the artwork used for our season brochure, Carol Worthington-Levy's painting entitled "Anticipation." Carol is a singer in Schola Cantorum as well as a professional artist. She is willing to license the painting for reproduction as an 18"×24" fund-raising poster which would feature our logo and the words "Twentieth Anniversary." We've crunched the numbers, and at $30 per poster we'd need to sell 27 posters to break even. Would you buy one' With our other current financial issues (yearly dues, a possible "Adopt-a-Riser" program, etc.) the board isn't comfortable approving the printing costs for these posters unless we're fairly sure this will be a successful fund-raiser.

June 12, 2005 Prices

Prices for our June concert have changed to coordinate with those of our partner organization, Schola Cantorum. Adults are $20, seniors/students/children are $16. There is no advance discount for this event.
