The Schedule

See here.

As a reminder, please remember to bring a music stand with you to each rehearsal. Better to have too many than not enough! Other items which can come in handy include stand lights, power strips, and extension cords

Family Concert Marketing

Our annual Family Concert is usually the orchestra's biggest money maker. Last year's concert was a great experience for the audience (and orchestra), but it had an unusually low attendance. The venue, at the College of San Mateo, was unfamiliar to many of our regular patrons, and this may have contributed to the low ticket sales. So it's very important that we draw a big crowd this year.

We've printed 1000 extra copies of the Family Concert postcard pictured here. Please take as many (but only as many) cards as you can distribute to teachers, schools, libraries, cub scouts, etc.

Also, we've prepared an 8 1/2" × 11" B&W flier that you can distribute by e-mail,  or by hardcopy if you run out of postcards. You can download this flier here. You'll find PDF versions of the postcards online too.

Our family concerts are a wonderful way to introduce children (or parents!) to the world of orchestral music. Please help us bring in a crowd!

Got Risers

As you probably know, Redwood Symphony purchased risers for use at Bayside Performing Arts Center. We hope to recoup some of this rather larger expenditure through fees charged to other groups, but we're really hoping that some generous patrons or orchestra members will consider participating in our "Adopt-a-Riser" program. In exchange for a $500 donation, we will list your name in the Riser Donor section of our program also display your name on “your” riser. If you're so inclined, please consider making a donation for this important cause. Thank you!

The current list of riser donors is:

E-Mail List Getting Spam

We've received reports of spam being sent to the orchestra's e-mail distribution list. We've recently reconfigured our domain's mail server to provide increased spam filtering. But as you know, spam is a nearly insurmountable problem these days. Here are some things you can do to help avoid problems, both for you and for the orchestra:

Orchestra members should not send a message to the entire distribution list except when authorized by a member of the staff, or perhaps in case of emergency ("Help, I left my Stradivarius on the piano after rehearsal. Did any body find it?"). You can send messages to your own instrumental group at your own discretion, or until your fellow groups members beat you up.

Digital Video Person Wanted

We're looking for someone who can record this weekend's concert with a digital video camera located out in the hall. George will set up a 2nd, stationary camera either offstage or behind the orchestra. The goal is to get enough footage to put together a few short video clips for the web site. (Do you still call it “footage” when it's digital video?) If you know someone who can help us out, please let us know.

This is a Web version of text from the newsletter "Redwood Symphony Notepad" which is distributed to members of the Redwood Symphony at rehearsals. The newsletter and this online version are edited by George Yefchak.
