Picnic This Sunday

Claudia will supply drinks and chips. If you have a favorite dish that you would like to share with the group, feel free to bring it.

DIRECTIONS: Take 101 to Marsh Road/Atherton exit. Head west (away from the Bay) about 2 miles, until you hit the end of the road (you will be at a T-intersection at Middlefield). Turn right (north) and go about ½ mile. On your right will be a small road called Ninth Avenue. (If you come to a traffic light you have gone one block too far.) Turn right on Ninth Avenue and go through five traffic speed-control barriers, or approximately 1 ½ blocks. Look for a white house with blue trim. There is a big ivy-covered fence in front. Look for the number 544 on the garage. We'll be out back.

Please call Claudia with questions (415-365-7152) or send e-mail to cherzog@netscape.com.

Coming Soon

The Redwood Symphony Members' Handbook will be available in September. It will contain schedules, policies, history, important phone numbers, and ever so much more. If you have ideas for the handbook, please see Peter Stahl (oboe).

Fred Norman Resigns from Board

--Peter Stahl

Long-time Redwood Symphony Board Member Fred Norman has resigned from our board and assumed the role of Director Emeritus. Among the founders of Silicon Valley, Fred has always been deeply involved in the arts. He helped launch the Peninsula Symphony in 1948 and was instrumental in getting Flint Center built. He has been asked to help Peninsula Symphony organize its Golden Anniversary- season, which will prevent him from participating fully as a Redwood Symphony board member. We let him go with the stipulation that he return to help us with our fiftieth season in 2035!

As Director Emeritus, Fred will continue to lend us his considerable business and arts experience on a consulting basis. Best of luck, Fred!

Return of the Naked Man

Redwood Symphony members who performed in Naked Man with the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus-: The Chorus loved singing and recording with us! So much so, in fact, that we have been asked to do two additional performances of Naked Man this fall in San Francisco: Friday night, October 4th at the First Congregational Church in Union Square, and Sunday afternoon, November 3rd at Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill. Details, including rehearsals and transportation, are still being worked out. But please check your calendars now and let Orchestra Manager Kristin Link (violin) know if you will be unable to do either of these gigs. Kristin can be reached by e-mail at link@bayarea.net and by phone at (H) 408-264-4671 or (W) 510-287-4307.

Postage Due

Note that the season brochure cannot be mailed without a 32¢ postage stamp. The printed non-profit organization emblem only works for bulk mailings.

Web Site News

Soon we will have our own domain name, "redwoodsymphony.org". Once this is in place our web address will then be www.redwoodsymphony.org/

We are currently in the process of signing up for Global Center's Beta program. As part of this, will be acquiring the custom domain name. I assume we will be able to create arbitrary mailboxes to this domain as well, although I have not as yet discussed this with Global Center. During the Beta period, we will not be charged for this service. I told them that if they decide to charge us afterwards, we will go elsewhere (the domain name travels with us from then on.)

Meanwhile, our web site should be available at www.globalvillag.com/~redwood. Note that the alternate- address www.globalcenter.net/~redwood no longer works.

[Ed. note: At the time of printing, www.globalvillag.com/~redwood was also not working, though it seemed OK earlier today.]

This is a Web version of text from the newsletter "Redwood Symphony Notepad" which is distributed to members of the Redwood Symphony at rehearsals. The newsletter and this online version are edited by George Yefchak.
