--Claudia Herzog
It is that time again where we need to get together and talk
about how we can make the Fodor event in June a wonderful
experience for all.
The first meeting was originally scheduled for
Thursday, April 3rd at Claudia's House. Due to a low expected
turnout however (as determined by a poll at the April 2
rehearsal), a new date will soon be announced.
Please consider the following areas where you can help out
with the event:
- Publicity--we need to send a press
release to the local papers soon so they can
start planning for feature stories with Fodor when he
arrives. This team will involve writing the press release
and following up with the publications to see that the
releases are properly placed and we do not miss any
opportunities for further press coverage.
- Special Events--Fodor will be performing
at Stanford at the Bing Music Series on June 4th at 4:00 P.M. I would like
to make sure we have a good audience for him and want to
see if we can get the media to attend (we may need to use
the expertise of our Publicity team for this one).
- Master Class--We have already done a lot
of work here, but I need help contacting music teachers
in the area and sending out the flyer for the event
(which we have already completed). Then we need to follow
up and make sure the teachers are either bringing
students to observe or are sending their students to
perform. This should be a great event. In
addition, we would like to
adequately publicize this event in advance of the
concert.
- Corporate Outreach--Deborah Birckhead
has already been brainstorming on how we can help the
local companies become more involved with RWS (donating
money, providing performance venues, helping us
commission new works, special projects, etc.). The
immediate tasks for this group are to plan funding for
the Fodor visit. But lots of fun projects will pop from
this group.
- Press Kit--Patti Harrell has already
started this project and will be pulling together items
for our Press Kit. This is a grouping of documents,
articles and bios that help the Press and local
corporations/civic bodies get to know who we are.
Immediate projects are working on collecting information
for the core kit, helping to collect orchestra bios, and
taking photos (Valerie Sarfaty has volunteered).
- CDs--David Stork and I have started work
on determining the factors that will lead to RWS
successfully producing one CD for next season (or
possibly the one following, depending on our progress).
So far, this project consists mainly of brainstorming
issues involved in recording and meeting with potential
talent (editors, productions people, recording engineers,
etc.).
- Logistics--Last year, Victor Lee did a
great job of coordinating how the house was going to look
for the Fodor visit and reception. Since we are at a new,
larger venue this year, this should be a fun project.
- Fodor Reception--We have already
identified a possible donor for the Fodor Reception site.
This project would involve meeting with the donor and
making plans for the reception. Budget will be provided
for the event. In addition, you will be in charge of
inviting press, local "dignitaries" and others
to the reception to help share the success of the
concert. Last year Catherine Habiger had great success in
getting local companies to donate food and drink for the
event (all of that hard work has already been done).
