Fodor -- The Sequel

--Claudia Herzog

We have another Fodor event coming up in June. I would like to request that we get organized and motivated for the event early this year. Due to the tremendous efforts last year of Catherine Habiger, Victor Lee, Dave Silon and many others, we have laid the foundation for publicity/gifts in kind, hall management, and the master class. Therefore, this year's planning should work more smoothly, especially if we start early.

Here are the specific activities that I would like to get jump-started soon:

Please send me an e-mail (cherzog@dsp.net) if you are interested in any of these roles. Or you can come up to speak with me at break time. I am very interested in helping to create fulfilling and manageable volunteer roles for orchestra members and people who are just interested in being involved with RWS.

More work is being done to increase our core volunteer corps and increase our connection to the community at large (our audience members, local corporations, music teachers, etc.). Please take a moment to consider how you would like to be involved in improving how RWS operates. Then also consider who within your circle would be interested in joining us.

Hope to hear from you!

Program Deadlines

--George Yefchak

Cañada College has reduced their staff in Central Duplicating, so they have asked us to provide the concert program two weeks in advance. I'm going to add to this already stressful deadline advancement by asking that all contributed items (e.g. program notes, lists of donations and supporters, etc.) arrive in time for a draft the program to be proofread by Eric (or Peter, etc.).

In the past, things have always come at the last moment, and I usually demonstrate the traditional inability of an editor to find errors in one's own work. (Note this gem from the Kodàly notes in our previous concert program: Bartók wrote, "If I were to name the composer whose works are the most perfect embodiment of the Hungarian spirit, I would answer, Bartók.) In order to avoid this sort of thing this time, please observe the following deadlines.

Upcoming Deadlines

  • Jan. 20. Program notes delivered to George
    (Mon) (E-mail yefchak@hpl.hp.com, or as a
    last resort, FAX 415-852-8502)
  • Jan. 22 All other info delivered to George
(Wed) (E-mail, FAX, or deliver in person at
    rehearsal)
  • Jan. 24 Mock-up delivered to Eric, etc. for
    proofreading
  • Jan. 27 Originals delivered to Cañada College
