Notepad is the newsletter for Redwood Symphony members. The goal for the newsletter is to save time at rehearsals by cutting down on the number of announcements we have to make each week. If you have some news of interest to our membership, please don't hesitate to write it down and send it to the George (oboe) so we can include it in our next issue!
Notepad is typically distributed every two to four rehearsals (but never at a sectional rehearsal), depending on the articles received and the editor's schedule.
Schedule in the Palm of you Hand-- George Yefchak
As announced near the end of last season, those of you who own Palm or Windows CE handheld computers can download our rehearsal schedule directly to your device. You'll need to install a program from AvantGo Corporation (www.avantgo.com). Complete instructions are available at site here.
Our concerts are digitally recorded by Bob Porter. You can now order CDs of our concerts from Tom Diskin. Order forms are currently available at rehearsal. In the next few weeks, look for ordering information on our web site as well. (Tom is not currently playing with the orchestra, but he will still handle CD distribution.)
Individual concert CDs are $5, though some of our longer concerts require two CDs and thus cost $10. See the order form for complete details.

This season, our board decided we would have both a season poster (suitable for mounting) and a season brochure (for mailing to our patrons). We're grateful to the Redwood City Rotary Club for partially funding our brochure, which is one of our most ambitious marketing efforts to date.
This season's poster and brochures were designed by Barbara Heninger and I (but mostly by Barb!). Our goal for this year was to convey a friendly, informal feeling in line with this season's more familiar and accessible repertoire.
A few season details changed after the poster went to press. These changes are reflected in the brochure, which was produced only a few weeks ago:

Violins and violas in the Mozart will be chosen by short audition today with of a passage utilizing spiccato. All strings chosen must be available for every Mozart rehearsal, except for exceptional cases. The same criteria will be used in choosing strings for the November 19 chamber orchestra concert: spiccato for all strings (Midsummer Night's Dream) & ability to make all five rehearsals.
This is a Web version of text from the newsletter "Redwood Symphony Notepad" which is distributed to members of the Redwood Symphony at rehearsals. The newsletter and this online version are edited by George Yefchak.
