Second Time Around For Thirteen Mahler Sixers

Sunday's performance will be the second time Red wood Symphony has performed Mahler's Sixth. We played the piece at our Cañada College debut on August 2, 1987. The following current members of the orchestra played that day, fourteen years ago:

Steve Auerbach, bass
Barry Guerrero, tuba (then), percussion (now)
Patti Harrell, flute
Joan Hebert, clarinet
Heather Katz, violin
Lynn Klauda, flute
Michael Mayr, violin
Jim Millar, horn
Birgitte Moyer, violin
Steve Ruppenthal, trumpet
Suki Russack, harp
Peter Stahl, oboe
Dan Swinehart, trumpet

See you in January

We hope you all have a peaceful and joyous December break. We have a busy January planned.

Rehearsals for our "Variations" concert start on Wednesday, January 2nd. Look for a rehearsal schedule backstage on Sunday. Because the concert is so early in February (2/10, to avoid Presidents' Day weekend), we have had to insert a Friday rehearsal on January 18th.

Please make sure you're available that night (1/18). Like most of the music we perform, the repertoire for this concert is quite challenging, so it's important to be at all rehearsals if you possibly can.

Also, our annual Chamber Concert is on Saturday night, January 26th, at 8 o'clock. This will be an exciting and eclectic evening featuring your fellow musicians in works for small ensembles. Don't miss bassoonist Maria Yuin in costume playing Michael Daugherty's Dead Elvis! Redwood Symphony members not performing will get free admission (but no comps). So come out and see your colleagues strut their stuff! [Ed. Note: I'll be conducting a ten-member ensemble, performing Poulenc's "Suite Française." I'm not dressing as Elvis, however.]

Finally, the annual Concerto Competition will be held in late February or early March; stay tuned for the exact date. Please see Eric in advance if you're thinking of auditioning.

Please Don't Litter

When we occasionally manage to produce an issue of Notepad (like today), we tend to find many copies scattered all over the floor after rehearsal. Please clean these up. Thank you!
