Redwood Symphony has received a $500 grant from Peter Stahl's employer, AOL Time Warner, to help fund the Family Concert in May. The grant will provide free tickets to 50 local schoolchildren, and also partially offset our music rental costs.
In a letter enclosed with the grant check, AOL Time Warner CEO Gerald Levin wrote, "Your community involvement and commitment are eloquent reminders of the everyday significance of our mission, and of the extraordinary ways in which all of us can help to fulfill it. Equally, your example of dedicated ser vice underlines the fundamental beliefs we have in common and our shared determination -- locally as well as globally -- to make a difference ... AOL Time Warner is proud of you for what you've done and grateful for the opportunity to support your volunteer contribution."
On behalf of the Redwood Symphony board, Peter would like to extend these sentiments to all of the volunteers in the orchestra.
Many of your fellow Redwood Symphony members are working hard to prepare for our fifth annual chamber music concert. Please come and give them your support. We promise you'll enjoy the show!
Sure, we have some "conventional" chamber music (like a piano trio, a cello quintet, etc.). We also have an eleven-member ensemble playing a delightful work by Poulenc. And finally, we have Michael Daugherty's Dead Elvis! Daugherty is a former rock drummer whose works often incorporate modern pop music and culture influences. Dead Elvis is a chamber concerto for bassoon. You won't want to miss bassoonist Maria Yuin performing in full Elvis costume and wig!
The online order form for concert CDs now lets you specify quantities, so you can order more than one of your favorites at once.
When we occasionally manage to produce an issue of Notepad (like today), we tend to find many copies scattered all over the floor after rehearsal. Please clean these up. Thank you!
