Pursuant to a grant from AOL Time Warner, Redwood Symphony is giving away 50 child and 25 adult tickets to the May 5 Family Concert. Here are the guidelines for distributing the tickets:
The concert is Sunday, May 5, 2:00 P.M. at Caņada College.
In the past, Caņada College has been lax in enforcing its parking regulations. This has now changed. Please obtain the required permits to avoid parking tickets.
Beginning this week we will not start late or take time out from rehearsals for parking permits. Please arrive early enough to be in your seat, warmed up, when rehearsal starts at 7:00 P.M.
For more information about the parking regulations, please see http://canadacollege.net/services/parking.html.
Permits are required except on weekends. Daily permits are $1 and available at two machines; try the one in front of the theater if there's a line for the other one. Semester parking permits are $30 and can be purchased at the Business Office in Building 8 (across the plaza from the theater), open 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. M - F.
Redwood Symphony is pleased to welcome composer Ole Saxe. Ole heard Karen Bentley perform in Denmark and was inspired to write a salsa for her. Messages and musical scores passed between Sweden and Palo Alto, and eventually Salsa for Karen came to life. Later, this dance grew into a suite of six dances for solo violin, and finally the suite was orchestrated as the three-movement work we are performing. The original salsa appears at the end of the third movement in the final version.
You can hear Salsa for Karen as performed by Karen Bentley and percussionist Ian Dogole online. Go to www.mp3.com/bentley-dogole.
For information from the composer about the six original dances, see Karen Bentley's web site at www.kbentley.com.
