A Note from your Baton Twirler
--Eric Kujawsky

There might still be some confusion about how we start each half of a concert, what happens after the concert, concert dress, etc. Allow me to clarify.

Please note first that everything is evolving this year, and probably will be for years to come. We're trying to create a more hip, contemporary, inclusive, non-elitist atmosphere at our concerts. We want to create some buzz (as long as it's not "buzz off") and eventually take the lead in all things orchestral on the Peninsula, including budget size.

Before the Concert:

Warm-up is done in band room. Please go on stage only when you're ready to ready your "workspace" for the coming festivities. Once there, keep instrumental noises to a minimum. The stage will be darkened until just before we start.

3:05 P.M.:

Orchestra will be on stage. On my signal to the stage manager, stage lights will come up to a dim 50%, house lights down 50%. Heather, who will already be out on stage, will tune everyone.

Stage lights to full:

When that happens, orchestra immediately stands and I walk out. Sit at my signal.

(Incidentally, please be ready to stand after a work has been performed. From my viewpoint, this often looks very ragged and unenthusiastic.)

We will do the same at the start of the second half. Intermission is 20 minutes.

We encourage you to visit the lobby to meet patrons, but please be back in time! Ask me if you aren't sure when to be back. Please do your after-concert schmoozing in the lobby after the concert (and get people to buy fabulous stuff).

Concert dress:

Still black with an added color(s) of your choice, but men are now encouraged to eschew ties and jackets. Have some individual flair (but fit in)! Be creative (but not too distracting)! The look is classy informal, like what you'd wear perhaps to a nice party. Go ahead, express yourself!

Messiah Sing/Play-Along

Ann Walker's annual Messiah sing/play-along will be held on December 22, at 6:30 P.M. in Atherton. Strings, woodwinds, horns, trumpet, and timpani needed.

Details coming soon.
